String Quartet

Another semi – finish seems to have been a long time coming, but fear not I have every intention of adding some more to this blog in the next few months. This is ‘String Quartet’, a quilt heavily inspired by Jacquie Gering’s class sample for her latest Craftsy class, Next Steps with your Walking Foot shown here on her blog.

I made it from 25 inch finished blocks, putting the paper foundation together using greaseproof kitchen paper (cheap, very cheap and transparent – a huge bonus) with everyday masking tape, then laying it over my cutting mat and using the grid to keep it square to cut the foundations. The masking tape didn’t cause any problems when it came to sewing over it and removing the paper to finish and in the end it all went together really well.

It was never my intention to match the diagonal seams and in hindsight it might have been better to have that be more obvious rather than have it look like it was missed. All up I was really pleased with it and it’s been a great way to use some of my stash that’s been hanging around for a while (understatement ;-) ).
